Acid-Base Indicators & Complex Ions -- In this study of acid-base indicators and complex ions, a colorless solution is poured from a large beaker into four smaller beakers producing solutions of “strawberry soda,” “blueberry soda,” “red wine” and “water.” -- Mixing the resulting solutions from the first three beakers produces “red wine.” The three beakers are refilled with wine and subsequently all four are poured back into the large beaker to produce water. -- Includes: phenolphthalein and thymolphthalein indicator solutions, ammonium hydroxide, ferric chloride, hydrochloric acid, sodium fluoride solution, potassium thiocyanate solution and teacher demonstration notes. Demonstration time: 15 minutes. |
