Unsuspecting insects are easily trapped in the hollow leaves of the Sarracenia. Lured by nectar, insects fall into the leaves, but cannot escape due to a series of downward-pointing hairs. Eventually, the insect is digested after being drowned in the water that collects inside the leaves.
