Look around you. What do you see? More importantly, what don’t you see? Bacteria surround us in our daily lives. While most of these microorganisms are harmless, some can cause disease. This lab lets students study the effects that antiseptics and disinfectants can have on bacteria. Students will conduct three experiments to show how chemicals can control the growth of bacteria in water, soil and in their own bodies. -- Includes: iodine tincture, bleach, Lysol®, rubbing alcohol, mouthwash, pipets, forceps, a ruler, cotton swabs, sterile discs, glass stirrers, paper cups, petri dishes, nutrient agar, marking pencils, and a teacher’s guide with background information. |
